Jacques Calonne

29 September - 2 December 2012
Jacques Calonne (born 1930) is a Belgian artist, composer, singer, actor, logographist and writer. In 1944-46 he studied at the conservatories in Mons Brussels and here he met the composer André Souris, who introduced him to the surrealist movement. From 1947-49 Calonne studied at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels.
Only 19 year old, Calonne participated in the first Belgian exhibition of the Cobra Group, shown at Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels in 1949. Here he met the poet Christian Dotremont and immediately got connected to the group as its youngest member.
For this exhibition in the Drawing Gallery, Museum Jorn has lent 57 works directly from the artist’s home. All the works are on paper and have characteristic long titles. The exhibition will demonstrate works by Calonne spanning from 1956 to 2010 in various materials.
